A little perspective here
You can’t get away with much at Custom Conditioning…not with our trainers who seem to have eyes (and I bet spies, too) everywhere.
In my February 25 post, I mentioned that I was a little down about my progress—not from a strength or fitness perspective, but from a looks perspective. My weight isn’t coming down or my impressive girth shrinking the way I would like.
At my next training session, Paul was on me like a shot…I felt like a field mouse beneath the talons of a hawk…wonder how many calories there are in one field mouse?
Paul used my post to illustrate (once again) the importance proper nutrition plays in our pursuit of health fitness (and in my case, a killer bod, too). And the example Paul used was sobering (even without alcohol) to say the least.
The subject was broached after we’d just finished one of those conditioning sessions that make me leak like a tap….an hour of non-stop, high intensity strength training and cardio mix. At the end of the session I was asked how many calories I thought I had just burned. I was thinking about 1,000—but was shocked to discover that it was unlikely to be more than 600.
Then came the kicker…one bowl of cooked noodles…sans sauce…is around 400 calories….gulp!! Add the sauce, and that’s pretty much my workout right there. And that’s assuming that my body is working properly, my hormones are all in sync and I’m processing food optimally.
Doesn’t leave much room for excess as far as nutrition is concerned, does it? Check out this article on increasing your calorie burn.
The example hit home…we can undo all our hard work in the gym in seconds with poor nutritional choices.
How much importance do you place on nutrition as part of your health and fitness lifestyle?

A lot more importance since I started training with Paul! Still have a lot to learn!
The learning curve is pretty steep, eh? Me, too.
